Wednesday 21 May to Sunday 25 May 2014
During his stay at Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres, Kevin delivered a three day masterclass called ‘The Best Ms’ at the ACT Writers Centre, as part of HARDCOPY.
HARDCOPY is a professional development program form young and emerging writers that builds the capacities, resources and aptitudes of committed Australian writers. HARDCOPY’s focus in 2014 is fiction and aims to:
- help writers produce the best possible manuscripts;
- facilitate relationships between writers, literary professionals, and—ultimately—readers; and
- break down the barriers of location and geography, linking Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney and the regional areas in between.
HARDCOPY is generously supported by the Australia Council.
Kevin O’Brien has professionally edited an extensive range of trade nonfiction and fiction titles, for Mainstream Publishing in Edinburgh (three years), then Random House in Sydney (five years), and now as a full-time freelancer based in the Adelaide Hills, with clients including Pan Macmillan, Hachette, Random House, UQP, Black Inc. and Penguin. Some of the novelists Kevin has worked with are Kate Forsyth, Gregory Day, Peter Rix, Jacqueline Lunn and Jenny Bond. He has also run critiquing workshops for fiction writers at the New South Wales Writers’ Centre and will be delivering an ‘editing boot camp’ for novelists at the South Australian Writers Centre later this year.
