Juhani Koivumäki works with short films and photographs. In his works Koivumäki explores individuals’ universal hurting points and the underlying conflict between the individual and society and their often colliding interests. Many of his short films have been presented in film festivals and screenings around the world since 2002: Helsinki, Tampere, Rauma, Kassel, Paris, Riga, Lisbon, Berlin, Budapest and many more. Juhani Koivumäki graduated with a Master of Fine Arts, from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki 2008. Koivumäki has held solo exhibitions in Helsinki, Porvoo, Turku, Sydney and Brisbane. He has held workshops for young people and children in Phnom Penh, Berlin and Hämeenlinna. He has been responsible for overseeing the visuals in theatre plays and has also directed and written alternative music videos.
The Apostle is a metaphorical media-art work/short film about the radical ideas of Jesus of Nazareth, which are facing new forms of interpretation under the pressure of constantly changing needs of contemporary society and its institutions.
