Empathy & Portraiture, Anatomy & Geometry

This workshop focuses on simple geometric forms and relationships as an underlying framework for drawings of the human form. With special attention given to works of art – such as Buddhist sculpture – that inspire empathy in the viewer, participants will learn to see the face and body with heightened clarity and learn to draw complex features and subtle emotions. In preparation for drawings that incorporate the face as an integral aspect of the body as a whole, the workshop will begin with an introduction to portraiture before exploring the dimensions and proportions of the model’s body in relation to the space around her.
