Joining an ensemble group is a fantastic way for those who are already taking private lessons to meet like-minded players and hone their skills in a fun and friendly group environment. Music for Canberra’s experienced conductors who lead the ensemble groups will encourage you to expand and enrich your musical repertoire.

The adult Recorder Ensemble, conducted by music teacher and professional musician Barbara Jerjen, is made up of musicians who are confident with their recorder playing; typically participants who are also taking private lessons either at Music For Canberra or with a private teacher, but confident players of any background are welcome to join at any time throughout the year. Barbara takes the group through pieces from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, all the way to contemporary jazz, folk and modern works.

Music For Canberra believes strongly in the importance of performance in improving the self-confidence and musical ability of students of all ages, and adult Recorder Ensemble participants who would like to are certainly encouraged to participate in concerts and other community events (but are under no pressure if they don’t wish to).

The adult Recorder Ensemble performs at Music For Canberra concerts, sometimes performing along with Music for Canberra’s youth recorder ensemble in a mentor role and to achieve a more robust sound, and also takes part in other performances & special projects and workshops in the wider community, such as Floriade and the Multicultural Festival, as well as other community events.
